JUDGES PERSONAL TOP 3
- Silver Bullet Child - This was a very well written Shonen-style comic. The story was smooth from start to finish and the art had a lot of expression and was consistent. It didn't lean into Dark Fantasy that much, and while it was well executed, some of it felt generic.
- Obsequy Oneshot - I loved the character designs, and the story was interesting throughout. Some of the text was difficult to read, but congrats!
- The Night Of The Vampirette - The best art in the contest. I probably would of scored perfect, but the text toward the end took me out. Could of stopped the comic after NO! BLAM! gunshot panel. Great job regardless!
- 5 Star MacGuffin by (@flowingcheech and @MrShoeShine7) - IMO the best comic isolated to itself, it is a decent length, great art, great storytelling/characters, and it wraps itself up very nice. Was saddened it didn't make the top 3, but we agreed it was more "fantasy" than "dark fantasy." Still, would love to see a continuation, it was very fun.
- Obsequy Oneshot - This one winning is great, the art is fantastic, the characters and their designs are really unique, and it sets up some really dope world building. Loved each part of this one, was a very solid comic.
- The Silver Bullet - Very solid overall, really just felt like I was reading an actual licensed manga oneshot. Very cool concept, with a good open ended vibe.
Honorable Mention: Undertaker (by @RubystarSage) - Just wanted to shout out this one, I thought the art was really unique and reminded me a lot of like late 90's/early 80's African American/Abstraction art, such as Jacob Lawrence; just a really neat concept integrated into a comic.
- The Night Of The Vampirette - Amazing art and colors. Strong original designs, feels like it's own thing. Very good. I could see this at the book stores.
- Obsequy - very readable art, intense gore and strong composition. Gives me a very dark souls vibe.
- The Silver Bullet - Has some really strong panels, some stuff is a little stiff but still very clean line work. Keep it up!
- Obsequy Oneshot - Its greatest strength lies in the focus on the characters and the smooth transitions between strong emotional points. A fantastic read that flows seamlessly through the panels and text, which are stylized and create a very warm atmosphere, contrasting with the dark world.
- The Night Of The Vampirette - Incredibly visually striking, it pops well with the colors in the gritty and gory narrative that is wonderfully filled with detail
- The Second Pylon: Familiar Flesh (by @Spunin) - A sublime balance between light and dark supporting an interesting story that feels like a fable, communicated in a methodical, beat-by-beat manner.
- Obsequy - Very fun world building in this one. The art style/direction is very strong and the designs are very inspired. Felt like I was reading something by Fumito Ueda and Team Ico. The crass humor was a nice juxtaposition.
- Night of the Vampirette - Art direction and layout design are firing on all cylinders with this piece. In particular I was really into the SFX text design throughout the story, it added a lot of visual flare to each panel and made this a visual joy to read. Would love to see this team tackle a Bloodborne piece.
- Zygote (by @Throblin-Goblin) - Got a soft spot for this one - I'm really into the linework and shot direction. Reminded me of 90's Frank Miller stuff. Also was digging the abstract looking character designs. Had a nice fever-dreamy, Superjail kind of feel to it all.
- Obsequy Oneshot - Dragon, blood magic, and a hot witch. It's got it all with amazing art. Highly recommended.
- Silver Bullet Child - Revenant REIN Anthology - Nice contained story that can go places if it wants. Art is top notch, and action is great.
- The Night of the Vampirette - Awesome art and even more awesome gore. Character design is really well done. A good start for a series.
